Mi goreng comes in different flavours. I eat the original one but I gave the satay flavour a try this time. I love mi goreng with iceberg lettuce and a fried egg on top :)

I love buying frozen dumplings because they are easy to use and super delicious. These are my favorite dumplings:

You can use them in soups

Steam or microwave them

I like to get Subway when I’m in need of a quick and cheap meal! The person who prepared my sandwich this time was a bit messy with it but whatever, it all goes down the same pipe ;) 6″ veggie delight, 9 grain wheat, light on mayo and mustard, Swiss cheese, lettuce, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, spinach, salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar. Thanks! :D

I’ve been feeling under the weather so I made myself some soup with whatever I had available. This is why I call it the “whatever” soup. It consists of stuff that I like that so I figured I can throw them in together with a vegetable broth. I used green onions, potatoes, enoki mushrooms, and prefried tofu puffs.

Here are some pictures of the airplane food on my flight to and back from Taiwan to the US. I tagged along with my father and his associates for a business trip there. He told me we were going to Hong Kong but HE LIED… Anyway, enough of that…

So basically my role was just to bring my things and show up. It was my first time flying as a vegetarian so I had no idea how the food thing worked with airlines. I’m just used to flying domestic and getting peanuts or pretzels lol. The tickets were also booked by the company so I didn’t know that I was supposed to request special meals.

I dropped the bomb onto the flight attendant while up in the sky flying over the Pacific Ocean that I was a vegetarian lol. They weren’t prepared for that so I ended up getting cold nasty leftovers. Blech! Totally my fault though. I’m lucky I even had anything to eat.

This is my first meal. So soggy, bland, and cold  It’s not congee, but it’s not steamed rice either. The only think edible was the bread… I was supposed to get a second meal during that flight but I was asleep. You sleep, you don’t eat :(

Here is the food at had in the VIP lounge at the Taiwan airport. Ahhh finally nice hot normal food! I think I had a redbean bun and a custard bun.

The food on the flight back was MUCH better. I notified the people at the desk this time about my dietary needs. You don’t have to notify the airline too far in advance about special meals; you just have to tell them before the plane takes off lol.

First meal on the flight back. Noodles, bak choy, some patty. Not bad! A lot of the frozen Asian vegetarian food sold here in the US like the fish I like to use or ham is imported from Taiwan so Eva being a Taiwanese airline, had pretty decent vegetarian food.

And some more noodles with fake meat stuff.

It was also my first time flying international as an adult so this may have existed but I wasn’t addicted to shopping then to care :P But I thought it was cool that you can go shopping while on the plane. Look through the catalog, pick what you want.

And the flight attendant rings you up. Sweet!

I’ll be flying United Airlines from the US to Australia this year so I’ll do an airplane food post on that trip too. This time I indicated my food restrictions while booking the ticket ;)

I’m so proud of myself. I could not figure out how to make chow mein noodles not stick for the longest time. Buy chow mein noodles, put in boiling water just to separate the noodles, drain and rinse with cold water, then add to oiled pan to fry. Viola! Nice separated chow mein noodles.

I would have added bean sprouts, but I didn’t have any and didn’t feel like going to the store.

Food: Veggie Corn Dogs

Unfortunately, my favorite veggie corn dogs by Morningstar Farms has been discontinued for some time now along with their hot dogs but I never really cared too much for those. An alternative, besides making your own from veggie dogs, is Trader Joe’s. I actually don’t think they’re bad at all, contrary to what others have said on the internet, but my only complaint is that these corn dogs are smaller compared to the average corn dog and the Morningstar Farm one. I finished the whole thing in three bites :(

Instead of ketchup, I’m using orange sauce.

Okay so I know this doesn’t look like pho but whatevs. I just threw in some water, vegetarian pho bullion cubes, and whatever I had in a pot. Well actually, I haven’t had real pho in a long time and I don’t remember what’s supposed to be in it. I didn’t bother to research it before I went to the supermarket and the only thing I remembered was bean sprouts, onions, and the pho noodles obviously lol.

For next time I will remember to use cilantro, cinnamon, star anise, and green onion.

A better recipe here.
