I was searching for a gradual self tanner. I have used the Jergens Natural glow moisturizer and even though it works very nicely, I don’t like using the thick lotion where it felt sticky and I had to wait for a long time to get dressed. I prefer the ease of sprays for everything, including sunscreens. When I found this new product on the shelves, I was ecstatic. It was a gradual self tanner in spray form, the first I’ve seen! I picked up two and tried it out after a shower. A little while later, my tan had already started to form and I noticed that there was this very obvious line on my leg! Apparently I had missed some areas and there where lines on my body that were 2-3 shades darker! It was so embarrassing. It looked like I had a skin disease… or a very obvious cheap tan. I wanted to give the spray another go. I tried spraying the tanner further away from my body and I think that seemed to do the trick. However, a few days later when I was too lazy to continue with the spray tan, my tan had faded, but in splotches!
This spray did not feel like a gradual tanning spray at all. By one to two applications, I was already about 3-4 shades darker. It would not have been obvious that I missed some areas after my first application if it were a gradual tan. This is more of an instant tanning spray in my opinion. It was also difficult to have control with the spray since I wanted to avoid my neck, which was already darker than the rest of my body. I was fed up with this product so I exchanged both the bottles I had purchased for Coppertone spray sunscreens instead. By the way, when using a self tanner, be sure to also use sunscreen as the ingredient dihydroxyacetone can make your skin more vulnerable.
I will try the Jergen’s natural glow foam next. It has some pretty good reviews on makeupalley and is supposed to dry pretty quickly.
